From 1 May 2019, the Department of Home Affairs is mandating the provision of English and financial documentation for all Nepalese Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector Student visa applicants. Currently, most Nepalese VET sector students do not need to provide evidence of English language skills and financial capacity as they are considered ‘streamlined’ under the Simplified Student Visa Framework. However, this documentation will be required regardless of the applicant’s combined evidence level.
Where a ‘Streamlined’ student does not provide documentation with their Student visa application, the visa processing officer will request it. However, visa application processing may be delayed as a result.
The VET sector is a key driver of international education and provides an important pathway for students to gain qualifications and specific skills across a wide range of industries. The Department acknowledges this position and is undertaking these steps to ensure the sector grows at sustainable levels and to protect the welfare of vulnerable students.
